Team leader

Capt. Kang sailed around the world as a seaman for many years and always feel nostalgia for the starry night in the middle of the Indian ocean.

He started astrophotography when he traveled to Mongolia in 2018. Since then, it has now seemingly become a way of life. He started with the Milky Way, which can be photographed with a small lens and a portable tracker. Then, he moved on to deep sky objects like galaxies and nebulae.

He is also a recipient, winner of astrophotography competitions by Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute in 2021.

He is a fanatic of Newtonian telescopes and believes that a well-made Newtonian telescope with a nice coma corrector is the most ideal telescope set up for astrophotography.

Manijeon (Seongil 'Danny' Seo) is currently an integrated M.S. - Ph.D. student in Aerospace Engineering at Seoul Nat'l University. Although he is currently studying space propulsion, his interest in deep space led his way to astrophotography.

Among all the fascinating DSO, Manijeon is most interested in the IFN(Integrated Flux Nebulae) in the northern sky. His currently largest project is to map the northern sky, from the Bode - Cigar brothers to the head of Cygnus.

HyunWoo Kim started astrophotography in 2017, and currently he has a 3-inch telescope and an ASI1600mm monochrome camera for astrophotography, and 12-inch Dob for observation.

He usually takes pictures of large nebulae and galaxies like IC 1805, M 31, NGC 7000, etc. He also likes taking nightscape, cityscape, and landscape with Sony A7M3.

In 1997, Comet Hale Bob was a game-changer to his life. But since then, no one could see a meteor if they go to see a meteor shower with him...

He has an outstanding record of winning the Korea Space Science Institute's Astrophotography Contest three times!

Selected for the Astronomy Picture of the Week of the Korea Institute of Space Science three times

KyuTae Kim

KyuTae Kim started amateur astrophotography in 2017.

He dreamed of becoming an astronomer as a child, but took a different path, and recently started seeing the night sky.

He has a 16" Dobsonian for visual, and a 3" refractor for astrophotography.

He is a software developer and a father of three children. He has a 25-year relationship with the night sky. He served as the head of a non-profit private organization called 'Astronote' and developed 'Starpl' night sky SNS service. Now, he is fascinated by deep sky astronomical photography and leaves when he meets a clear night sky.

As the elder of the team, the team members are treating him as a senior citizen.

Seungwon Choi

Dreaming of becoming an astronomer since birth, he is the youngest, yet the most ambitious astrophotographer on our team. His interests are in nebulae for amateur astrophotography and academic studying. Among these nebulae, he is in deep love with planetary nebulae and supernova remnants.

He drives his Hyundai Casper with hopes of driving to rural areas by himself, searching the few dark areas worthy of astrophotography in this 'light-desert' country.

Also, he loves potatoes.

JJal-chu

A Dobsonian owner, Jjal-chu is one of the youngest members of Team Dwarf stars.  His main interest is observing deep sky objects with his telescope, the GSO 16-inch Dobsonian.
Although he only has a telescope that is not suitable for astrophotography, he sometimes takes pictures with his camera, Sony A7s, without tracking.

Another Newtonian fanatic in team Dwarf Stars, Jaweoo is a reflector user for astrophotography. He has plentiful experience using reflector telescopes; he started with a Ritchey–Chrétien telescope and ended up praising the Newtonians for their optimal performance, well at least for use inside ROK, of course.

Legends say that he is an old man's soul inside a young man's body...
